【摘要】:ThispartofBS8723givesrecommendationsandguidanceonsometypesofvocabulary,otherthanthesauri,thatareusedforinformationretrieval.Itdescribesclassificationschemes(withbusinessclassificationschemesasaspecialcase),taxonomies,subjectheadingschemes,ontologiesandnameauthoritylists.Itdoesnotgivecomprehensiveguidanceonvocabularyconstructionbutfocusesonthemostcommonfeaturesofthevocabularytypes.Wheretheprincipalapplicationofthevocabularyisinformationretrieval(asisthecaseforclassificationschemes,subjectheadingschemesandtaxonomies),recommendationsaregivenforcontent,structureandsomeadditionalaspects.Wheretheprincipalapplicationisforanotherfunction,butthevocabularyissometimesalsoappliedtoinformationretrieval(asisthecasewithmanyontologies),characteristicfeaturesofthevocabularyaredescribed,andtheonlyrecommendationsconcernaspectsthatareuseful,orwhichshouldbeavoided,forpurposesofinformationretrieval.Asauthoritylistsofnamesareoftenappliedtoinformationretrieval,butnotalwaystoretrievalbysubject,thispartofBS8723doesnotgivecomprehensiverecommendationsforsuchlists,butdescribessomecharacteristicfeatures.Whileinformationretrievalisthecontext,thispartofBS8723isconcernedonlywiththevocabulariesthemselvesanddoesnotincluderecommendationsforindexes,catalogues,directoriesorotherinformationretrievaltools.NOTEThesauriandclassificationschemesprovidetwobasicmodels,respectively,fortheorganizationofvocabulariesusefulinretrieval.Astheirfeaturesareemployedinmostoftheothertypesofvocabulary,comparisonsandcontrastswiththesauriandclassificationschemesareprovidedamongthedescriptionsoftheothertypesinordertoassistwithinterpretationofBS8723-4.
