【摘要】:InusingPracticeD3960tomeasuretheregulatoryVOCcontentofcoatings,precisiontendstobepoorforlowVOCcontentwaterbornecoatingsbecausetheVOCweightfractionisdeterminedindirectly.ThepresentmethodfirstidentifiesandthenquantifiestheweightfractionofindividualVOCsdirectlyinlowVOCcontentwaterborneair-drycoatings.ThetotalVOCweightfractioncanbeobtainedbyaddingtheindividualweightfractionvalues(Note3).Note38212;AneffortiscurrentlyunderwayinCaliforniatoconsiderchangingmass-basedVOCregulationsforarchitecturalcoatingstoreactivity-basedVOCregulations.InCalifornia,reactivitybasedregulationshavealreadybeenimplementedforaerosolcoatings,thatis,MIR-indexedregulations(CaliforniaAirResourcesBoard).Reactivitybasedregulationswouldrequireknowingtheweightfractionsofeachindividualvolatilecompoundpresentinacoating.SPME/GCmakesitpossibletoidentifyverylowlevelsofvolatilecompoundsinacoatingandcouldservetomakeitpossibletoidentifythepresenceofhazardousairpollutants(HAPs).1.1ThistestmethodisforthedeterminationoftheweightpercentofindividualvolatileorganiccompoundsinlowVOCcontentwaterbornelatexair-drycoatings.ThemethodisintendedprimarilyforanalysisofwaterbornecoatingsinwhichthematerialVOCcontentisbelow5weightpercent.ThemethodhasbeenusedsuccessfullywithhigherVOCcontentwaterbornecoatings.1.2Thismethodmayalsobeusedtomeasuretheexemptvolatileorganiccompoundcontent(acetone,methylacetate,andp-chlorobezotrifluoride)ofwaterbornecoatings.ThemethodologyisvirtuallyidenticaltothatusedinTestMethodD6133andsimilartothatusedinTestMethodD6438.1.3Volatilecompoundsthatarepresentatthe0.05weightpercentlevelorgreatercanbedetermined.Solidphasemicroextractionwilldetectvolatilecompoundsatlowerlevels.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
